While speaking of festivals and fairs devoted to music, the most popular festival that comes into mind is the Roskilde Festival. It is the biggest annual rock festivals in Europe, held in Roskilde of Denmark.
This festival is conducted by the Roskilde Foundation, a non-profit organization for development of music and culture. It commands talents ranging from hippies through the mainstream youth from Scandinavia and to the rest of Europe. The participating audience is international, including people from Australia!
The festival commences in June, and goes on for four continuous days, offering a range of music: from the native country rock to the latest hip-hops, from classic theatre through to famous dramas to operas and ballads. For those who cannot attend the festival in person can listen to the music.
This year’s Festival (in 2007) was a wet festival. There was continuous rain, which failed to dampen the spirits of the people attending the festival. The audience as well as the performers enjoyed the season though they had to return to their tents, which were wet by the time they returned for rest. The musicians featured in this festival include Muse, Queens of the Stone Age, My Chemical Romance, The Who, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, among others.
